A Letter from Ancheri Care President: Dear Friends and Family! As you may know, I am currently residing in Port au Prince Haiti, providing part-time physical therapy services for children with disabilities. As a representative of Ancheri Care, Inc I have been able to provide consistent services for about 10 children. Recently, I have been given the opportunity to move from part time to FULL TIME therapy as a volunteer for Ancheri Care, Inc. I am writing to you in the hopes that you will consider partnering with me in the care that these children so desperately need. The disabled children in Haiti are often considered as "throw-a ways". The culture does not value the life of a child who is disabled. These children are often abandoned by their families in trash piles or at the steps of orphanages and hospitals. In Haiti, there is also stigma and superstition with the belief that these children are cursed by the devil or that the disability is evil and contagious. They believe that these children are not worthy of love and attention, let alone positive life changing interventions. If the family does care about their child, they often do not have the financial ability to pay for services, as Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. This is where Ancheri Care is excited about stepping in to meet the needs of these children. Our vision is to provide consistent intervention that will not only provide direct treatment to the child, but also provide family and caregiver training. We hope to decrease the stigma and fear associated with handicaps and to increase the ability of families to care for their children. Please consider partnering with Ancheri Care and becoming a financial support of this project. Your donation not only provides much needed care for these children, but also provides jobs for Haitians who live in a country with an 80% unemployment rate. For $80.00, one child can receive therapy services for one month. This includes the treatment session, transportation, translation, and any equipment needs that the child may incur. Imagine, for half of the cost of one hour of therapy in the United States, you can provide a whole month of therapy for a child in Haiti. Thank you so much for your interest in Haiti and the special children of this country. Cheri Kay Sessions, President Ancheri Care, INC www.anchericare.org [Click here to make a donation] |
